Over 20,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported from the Western Province since October 4, according to the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).
According to NOCPCO statistics, a total number of 11,706, 6,776, 1,339 COVID-19 cases have been reported from Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara respectively until this evening.
Nine police divisions and 23 Grama Niladhari Divisions are currently under lockdown in the Western Province.
On the other hand, the second-highest number of cases outside the Western Province has been reported from the Kandy district, which stands at 784.
Meanwhile, 63 COVID-19 deaths (48.84%) out of the total number of deaths reported after October 4, are 71 years and above people. 25 deaths were reported from the age group between 61-70, while 21 were between 51-60 years.
Moreover, out of the 142 deaths, 129 have been reported during the second wave of COVID-19 (after October 4). (Sheain Fernandopulle)
