Most of the Sri Lankans who returned from London this morning had checked-in to three luxury hotels for quarantine at their own cost.
Some of the returnees had been sent to a quarantine centre operated by the government at the Diyagama Technological Institute.
The government has arranged quarantine for returning Sri Lankans from abroad to spend their mandatory quarantine spell at hotels at a cost and as they pleased.
The cost is to be borne by the returnees.
Earlier, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said that several hotels had been modified for quarantine purpose and Sri Lankans could select a hotel for a nominal fee.
"Usually, one of these rooms is rated between Rs 20,000-40,000 per day. With everything included, inclusive of food, the owners have agreed to give a room for Rs 7,500 a day. The hoteliers will have no profit by providing meals thrice a day and everything else for such a low fee. What they are doing is a service," he said.
He said only those undergoing quarantine will be allowed at the selected hotels.

Hotels charge 12,500/- a day . But it is worth......availing facility for the ones who could afford may reduce the burden to the public funds too

it always good to offer quarantine options who over can afford , let them quarantine at designated hotels and this would help to bring down quarantine cost associated to government as well as a support for those hotels and their employees to run those hotels rather closing down at this pandemic struggle .

This is a very good move by the government. It is less burden to tax payers money and also an income to the hotel industry as well.

A news item dated 5th says that the cost of these star hotels accommodation to be borne by the returnees while a section has been assigned to quarantine centers. The hotel occupants have complained of unsuitable facilities. Apparently these 'yakkos' were guests of the Queen at Buckingham Palace. All these returnees should have been sent to some quarantine centers in the outbacks whether they liked it or not.

I would not mind quarantining myself in a luxury hotel with three meals for Rs. 7500 a day for a few days just for the experience of staying in a luxury hotel. I cannot afford it otherwise.
