Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa requested everyone to limit the Vesak celebrations to homes as much as possible by maintaining social distancing and following other health instructions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In a statement, Mr. Rajapaksa said that people could give prominence to decorate homes by using various Vesak decorations.

The Prime Minister said the health officials and the police have already devised programmes to deliver the necessary equipment which would be needed to create Vesak decorations at homes, in order to prevent the people from going out to buy decorations.

He said that this Vesak season will be a new experience for the school children as it would focus on celebrating the festival in a more efficient manner. Mr. Rajapaksa said that he also expected the electronic media to provide their assistance to celebrate the festival. (Yoshitha Perera)
