Harin backs Jerome Jayaratne managing SL Cricket team

Former Sports Minister Harin Fernando said Jerome Jayaratne is a suitable person for the post of Sri Lanka Cricket team manager.

He made this remark at a media briefing held in Colombo while answering questions raised by journalists.

There were strong protests on social media against Jayaratne owing to his involvement with the Rajapaksa family. The former Minister said Mr. Jayaratne has the ability to interact with the players without causing embarrassment to them.

The SLC recently  appointed Jerome Jayaratne as the National Team Manager for the team’s upcoming tour of the West Indies.

Jayaratne was appointed as the team manager, since Ashantha de Mel has decided to step down from the position due to personal reasons at the end of the England tour of Sri Lanka.

Commendable of Harin to rise above petty politics and give credit where it's due but the issue is not with the manager. It's the breakdown of the entire cricket structure and system. In 1996 we won the world cup due as Arjuna had the support of an excellent set of administrators led by Ana Punchihewa being in charge of the cricket board and before him the likes of PI Peries laying the foundation . Today we have crooks running the cricket board and unless that is addressed we will never regain our past glory

What about the current sports minister Namal or any retired army General.

Asantha De Mel should not come back to SLC or involve with cricket at national level because of proven failures.
