Harim appointed Minister Samaraweera’s advisor

Harim Peiris appointed as Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affair Mangala Samaraweera. He has received his official letter of appointment from Minister Samaraweera yesterday.
He is also Sri Lanka’s Point of Contact for the Open Government Partnership (OGP).
Mr. Peiris has previously held a variety of senior official positions, most recently as the Chairman of the Resettlement Authority and a Member of the Coordinating Committee of the Office of National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR). He has also served as Presidential Spokesman, Chairman of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and as Director General of Rehabilitation and Reconciliation.

Any appointment must be justified. What is his international relations background to be appointed ? Every appointment costs the tax payer and unless he has skills to advise the Foreign affairs minister on foreign policy, he should not be appointed. Civil society, do you agree and ensure the appointment should add value to the foreign ministry. This is nothing personal on Harim but to set good governance for Sri Lanka. We already have the eminent Jayantha Dhanapaa as advisor to President on foreign policy. So, do we need more advisors ?

I think Harim's appointment is just a hangover from Chandrika Kumaratunga's time.
