Gota didn’t need tight security: SF

Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa did not deserve more protection, Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said yesterday.
Speaking to the media during a visit at Nandimitragama in Vavuniya, the Field Marshal said that the security detail of former Defence Secretary was higher than what was given to him.
“I have been given 17 Police personnel. But Gotabaya has enough protection. As far I know the former Defence Secretary has 25 security personnel from the Army, Special Forces and Commandos.
“I have seen during a demonstration that he had the protection of the STF. I am not aware of the fact that Police protection was given after the military protection was withdrawn. But, he is well protected,” Field Marshall Fonseka said.
He said he was cordoned off by 500 military personnel during the war.
“But it is not necessary now because of the situation in the country. Former Defence Secretary is a normal citizen. He is not holding any responsibility for the government or for the people. He is not legally entitled to Presidential and Prime Minister or even a Ministerial protection.
“As far as I know, no secretary was given a protection once he retired,” he said.
Field Marshal Fonseka said that there were so many people in this country who had death threats and the country’s money would not enough if all of them were given bulletproof vehicles.
“If he was scared for his life, he can leave the country because he has a US citizenship,” Fonseka said. (Romesh Madushanka)

there are government servants who contributed to eliminate terrorists and other government servants whose participation was to watch the war on TV. The second type do not need protection from revenge takers. So your last sentence suits the kind like you but go on enjoy the peace that prevail.

Former Defence Secretary Mr. Rajapaksha was appointed by his President brother although he was not a citizen of this country. Holding an USA passport he was appointed a important post of Defence Secretary. Today he is just a visitor on visa I think. So, on whose authority was he given security?

When stupid talks only people realise that he is a stupid. Gota was not an ordinary secretary. He was one of the main pillars who held responsibility and fully engaged with cordination of forces during final war. Without his role the war would not have been eradicated from our country. Also the other reason, Gota never went to see LTTE leaders with apple parcels.

LTTE and their supporters staged a massive protest against SL Government and army in Geneva few days ago. During this recent demonstration, thousands of Tamil LTTE supporters gathered and accused Gota and government while SL has a opposition of Tamil people. So Gota needs more protection.

Gota had saved the country. that angered who earned Pounds in Millions from War trade. (Tamil Diaspora , Tamil Politicians, Indian Politicians, UK Politicians etc.)SF has no threat now as he has become a puppet of Diaspora through Ranil. Why not ask 17 security people wasting tax payer's money hanging around SF removed instead.

I can see so many trying to support about extra protection to Gota. Can those clarify out of Gota and FM who needs more protection when there are is no war at all. What we hear in social media and and other kinds of medias is a proxy war. LTTE will never rise up again ... it is all dramas
