Responding to media reports that General Election 2020, would be postponed due to prevailing Covid-19, Election Commission Director General Saman Sri Rathnayake said the Commission had not taken such a decision.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, he said they were holding discussions with the Health Ministry as to consider several issues in terms of what measures should be taken when people are assembling at one place.
"It is important that we prepare ourselves in a better way to minimise the spread of Coronavirus," he said.
It is normal for the Commission to have rounds of discussions with relevant authorities to discuss and resolve certain matters ahead of elections as we did during the presidential election with Disaster Management Centre," he said.
"Hence, having held discussions with Health Ministry does not mean that we are planning to postpone the upcoming General Election," he added
