The Gampaha District Administrative Services Association (GDASA) today boycotted their official duties and staged a protest campaign against Deputy Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare Ranjan Ramanayake for verbally abusing the Divulapitiya Divisional Secretary in public recently.

The Union earlier demanded the withdrawal of the malicious statement allegedly made by the Deputy Minister. (Tilakaratne Dissanayake)

Big difference in the two. Surely you cannot compare.

    JOker Monday, 30 January 2017 03:50 PM

Mervin physically attacked people. Once at a tv station for not showing a speech. If you think there is no difference between these two things you must be an MR voter.

You must have voted for Mervin.

Ranjan did it for a purpose, but Marvin ...to please

These government offices treat the public like dirt. Now the are at the receiving end and have got a taste of their own medicine. The government service is over staffed. Fire the lot and nip it at the bud.

Notice those banners are nicely (expensive) designed and printed. This should give your a hint.

    das Monday, 30 January 2017 12:57 PM

While condemning how Ranjan spoke to the officer over the phone, I must ask whether these government officials support the sort of illegal activities Ranjan was trying to stop?

    Ranjanie Monday, 30 January 2017 01:00 PM

The union should protest at their own time after 4.30pm or before 8.30am not during the time that the tax payers pay their wages... these taxpayer funded servents are ready anytime to bludge and ice. Hope the ministry deducted their wages for the day.

Ranger Thomas Monday, 30 January 2017 01:05 PM

This is defiance of basic office protocol. The entire bunch should face disciplinary action since boycotting is a criminal act. Transfer a select crown to the remotest districts in the Country. This Divisional Secretary probably expects Ranjan to come apologize with a bunch of roses, my foot.

It amazes me that virtually all staff struck work despite this officer been accused of corruption

    Sunil Monday, 30 January 2017 01:19 PM

It is wrong to say that the government servants are treating the public like dirt. Things have improved over the years. I am very happy that these public servants have the courage to raise their voice at such shoddy treatment.

    Soma Monday, 30 January 2017 01:21 PM

What amazing comments. When Mervin did something similar it was wrong but when ranjan does it somehow it's right.

    BV Monday, 30 January 2017 01:29 PM

If Ranjan bribes them may be they'll stop these illegal activities.Ranjan you are a true peoples representative.

    Bala Monday, 30 January 2017 01:40 PM

Though Ranjan was harsh he only asked if someone punches you on the jaw, do you wait for a complaint to take action ? He said officers should act and not wait for a complaint after the deed is done.

    sam Monday, 30 January 2017 01:58 PM

It wasn't correct the way he spoke to them, it isn't correct the way they speak to us. Perhaps their is a lesson here."Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

    Shama Monday, 30 January 2017 02:53 PM

What Sam says is right. AGA office and local Govt. officers are very rude and treat us like dirt. they think they know everything. So it is good to know what is to be spoken to like they do to us.
