Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake was arrested by the Mirihana police for obstructing duties of Police officers at a road block in Mirihana a short while ago, police said.

Former Parliamentarian Ramanayake and another person have been arrested on charges of obstructing police duties.

According to the Police, the former MP, a resident of the Madiwala MPs residence complex, was visited by a person from Piliyandala who arrived in a cab with no valid curfew permit on Monday morning (April 13) When questioned by Police officers on duty at the complex, the visitor had reportedly made a phone call to former Minister Ramanayake.

Ramanayake who arrived at the entrance shortly afterwards had then threatened the police officers and attempted to take the visitor inside the premises. The Mirihana Police had in turn arrested the visitor on charges of violating curfew regulations and the Minister for obstruction of police duties.

    P Tilak Tuesday, 14 April 2020 01:06 PM

This chap ( Ramanayaka ) has no right to interfere the police. As a " politician " ( if one could call him that)he should help the hard working police. He should know well that no one ( no one i) is above the law. People who vote for people like this imbecile need their heads checked. Sounds like he talks from his backside ( if he got one) Law abiding decent people should ignore these imbeciles. Party leaders should think twice before selecting brainless ,uncultured, subhumans like these.

There is no limit to the poor antics of this former so called politician . He will break any law to get the media attention and tell the people of this country that he was only distributing rice for the people .!! Please don't send him back to parliament !!

Though many politicians are not up to standard, this guy is far beyond. his voice cuts, his action, nature of law suits against him shows it beyond doubt. apart from the this man, votes who elected him are also responsible. During last election, he was waving files telling Rajapakses will be in prison in January 9th 2015. number of law suits again him in various courts in Sri Lanka tells the rest of the story.

Rajan Ramanayake is a good guy to help the people in times of necessity but some guys in the present caretaker government do not like him.

What business he got to occupy madiwela MPs quarters? was he attempting to create a shortage of rice in the market during new year? Has he got permission to distribute rice breaking curfew? let him do HR in the prisons. Govt to confiscate rice and handover to prisons to feed prisoners. whose agenda he carries out?
