While stating that the hunger strike which was launched by several high profile criminals at the Boosa Prison is continuing, the Prisons Department officials said they were not whatsoever ready to have any negotiation with those involved in the hunger strike.
Prisons Spokesman and Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake said 10 out of 40 inmates who launched the hunger strike Thursday morning had abandoned it today.
However, high profile criminals like Kanjipani Imran, Wele Suda, Kosgoda Tharaka and Podi Lassi are still on hunger strike.
“If we allow their demands to mete, it is against their disciplinary process,” he said.
When asked whether they would further beef up the security, he said the Special Task Force (STF) personnel had already been deployed at the prison.
“There is no necessity to provide extra security as STF personnel are much equipped and capable of tackling situations of this nature,” he said.
The Prisons Spokesman said the inmates launched the hunger strike in protest of the restriction on visitors and removal of telephone facilities.
The prisoners also protested against the search operations carried out on the inmates when they were brought to the Prison after being produced in the courts and demanded to increase the weekly amount that they can pay to purchase additional foods. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Send Wele Suda's BIL who was arrested to Boossa to join in the Hunger Strike. Quite Right. No Negotiations. Taking food on the sly may be possible.
Ram Friday, 11 September 2020 04:30 PM
Prisons, Stand your ground, provide water and food, light meals better as they are on hunger strike. If they want to end they can end. If they want to perish they can do that too. As long as you provide the basics you cannot be blamed

They should speak to Duminda S and seek redress

If these criminals live they kill thousands and thousands more. Give them food and water only, to their respective cells.. If they do not want to eat or drink it is their wish. fixed CCTV and release to media. Let the world know. Go on hunger and die so much better to future generations.

Hope Prisons will stick to their guns and will not give in. At the same time watch out for corrupt officials who will smuggle in super-luxury foods and beverages.

yes, you can allow murder convict to enter parliament but you cannot negotiate those who want to negotiate. regardless of their status, everyone's voice should be heard
Jeevani Jayaweera Saturday, 12 September 2020 11:49 AM
What negotiations with prisoners? According to the law murder convict had a right to get to parliament. Each case has to be dealt separately. Looks like there is some confusion. Let prisoners go on hunger strike as they know it's good for their mind and soul.

Prisoners like Wele Suda and Kanjipani should try and get nominated through the SLPP ballot for the upcoming PC polls. If Premalal can, why can't they:)

They are human beings too and should be provided basic needs they are lacking. We have criminals in our parliament enjoying everything than an ordinary person in Sri Lanka cannot. These criminals are being brought to justice already.

murder convicted criminal can enter parliament, they all prisoners should be released. It doesn't make any sense to keep prisoners while murder convict is allowed parliament. How can other MPs feel safe when a murder convict sit next to them?

Cause and Effect Saturday, 12 September 2020 11:45 AM
Are criminals born with a criminal mind? Or are they turned into such? Thoughts originate in the mind and manifest through the brain. There is no such thing as your mind and my mind. There is only Mind - the Universal Mind in which each individual’s mind is grounded. So what went wrong? The purity and innocence of the child’s mind gets affected by the environment in which it grows up.
Sambo Saturday, 12 September 2020 12:45 PM
Very true. They are trying to get the attention of the government for allowing a murderer to come to parliament.
AC Saturday, 12 September 2020 01:26 PM
