A special meeting to discuss the proposed alliance between the Blue-led UPFA and the Pohottuwa (SLPP) was held at Number One’s official residence the other day.

The former strongman and his party seniors attended this meeting.

However, Pohottuwa’s architect was conspicuous by his absence at this meeting. The meeting over, some seniors who participated in the talks called the Pohottuwa architect and asked him the reason for his absence. Some of them had directly asked him whether his non-attendance meant his opposition to the proposed alliance.

The Pohottuwa architect after asserting that he was not opposed to the proposed alliance went on to explain why he did not attend this meeting.

“The meeting was convened by Loku Mahattaya as the Head of the State. It is not proper for us to discuss a subject like the forming a party alliance at a meeting convened by him as the Head of State…  If he convenes a meeting as the leader of the political party that he leads, I will certainly participate in it… By the way, a person who is not a leader of a political party in the Opposition too had participated in this meeting. A big question hangs over his participation!”
