Remembering those who died at the final stage of Sri Lanka’s ethnic war,  Tamils in London  organised several events including a protest walk and other events on May 18 2026.

Marking the 17 years since the end of war in Mullivaikkal in 2009, a rally began at Parliament Square, the place where the Tamil community staged weeks-long protests in 2009, urging the international community to intervene in  Sri Lanka’s civil war.

The protesters held flags as they marched through Westminster and ended outside 10 Downing Street.  A memorial for the victims of  war was held outside 10 Downing Street. Kalaiyarasi Maniarasan, the Deputy Director of the Tamil Youth Organisation UK (TYO UK) raised the United Kingdom flag.

In memory of those who died, lamps were lit and flowers were laid at a makeshift grave. This was followed by serving of Mullivaikkal Kanji (symbolic rice offering),  remembering the hardships undergone by the Tamil community during the final stage of war.
