A proposal presented by the Kirinda-Puhulwella Pradeshiya Sabha to remove the name, ‘Mangala Samaraweera Pedasa’ and replace it with, ‘Lindagawa Watta Mawatha’ in Puhulwella, Matara, was passed yesterday with a majority of three votes.
Seven Pradeshiya Sabha members from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) voted in favour while three members including one from the UNP and the other from the SLFP voted against the proposal. This came in the wake of a petition handed over by residents of Puhulwella to the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman with 110 signatures calling for the removal of the Mangala Samaraweera’s name from the road and replace it as Lindagawa Watta Mawatha’
The proposal is to be sent to the Southern Province Governor Rajitha Keerthi Tennakoon.
