Then the owner must be arrested for exhibiting fake diamonds. It cannot be that a genuine diamond would have become fake with the interaction of stomach juices upon it.

They do. Gem merchant is the culprit. Release the innocent Chinese guy immediately. Investigate the gem merchant and fine for lying and faking.

Why can't anyone figure this out? This man had fake diamonds on his person when he was arrested. He stole the real diamond and gave it to his friend who ran away. Then he swallowed a fake diamond he had knowing that the attention would be up on him and letting his friend get away with the real one. Once the diamond is got out of his system he knows that no charges could be filed against him. Ironically it is the gem trader who is in trouble now for displaying fake diamonds or trying to sell them as real, when in fact he has lost a real diamond.

One rupee or 100 million rupees theft it theft.

When he swallow, he does not know it is fake and so intention is clear.

Full marks to Mewan for the excellent analysis, just like a detective. For all what we know, the genuine original diamond is already smuggled out of the country and this Chinese man will go scot-free. An excellent plot for a Hollywood movie like "Thomas Crown Affairs", "Topkapi" etc.

I already commented on this that he must have swallowed fake one. If it was real one, then he would have died within few hours after swallowing.
