Allocate more funds for defence: Ratnasiri

E-mail Print
Senior Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake today said that armed forces and police should be equipped with modern weapons as there were signs of terrorists raising their heads again.

“There are many elements operating locally and internationally, trying to disturb the peace we have gained. A political party had adopted a resolution stating that the country should be divided,” the former Premier said adding that, “these things should be taken seriously, and the country should allocate more funds for defence.” (M.D.P.Gunawardena)

Are you worried that the people might cause a uprising?

Possible suspect that people of SL may go for uprising like happened in Egypt. what necessary for spending such a big amount for defence, instead use the money to solve the ethnic issues and to industrialize the country and thus to create employment. all problems will be solved automatically. otherwise expect the consequences.

Not modern weapons or ammunition is what we need, we need modern thinking, a more liberal one, full devolution to N/E.

I agree one should be ever alert and not rest on the laurels of victory, to prevent terrorism raising its ugly head again but so should there be focus on addressing burning issues of the common people, instead of frittering away resources for self aggrandizement of politicians.

Why not consider allocating funds for feeding the poor & shelter to the homeless ? That way people will have better living conditions. I guess that would reduce a considerable amount of crimes. I am no expert to comment on terrorists. But I strongly believe that we are the reason for them to be created in the first place.

It appears all those who are still smarting from the defeat of the LTTE, its backers the West, their human rights buddies and the local Colombians are against you and not the country at large. We the majority are grateful for leaders like you for standing up and mobilising the masses to achieve this great victory and to sustain it.
