Chinese woman fined Rs.10

E-mail Print
A Chinese woman who pleaded guilty to loitering on a street in Kollupitiya at night in a way to lure people was ordered to pay a fine of Rs.10 by a Colombo Court.

The woman was arrested by Kollupitiya police while she was wandering near the Sea Avenue in Kollupitiya at night. The Kollupitiya police further charged that when she was arrested by police she was unable to give a valid answer to the charges of loitering in a public place. Police further charged that the accused had committed a punishable offence which comes under section 3(B) of the Vagrancy Ordinance. After taking into consideration the provisions of the act, Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne ordered her to pay a fine of Rs.10. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

Rs 10 is correct because, no change in the Vagrancy Ordinance since several decades, so number is correct

If it is Rs. 10/-, then she can pay Rs. 3650/- and can loiter for one year.

What a joke, it must have cost more to arrest this woman , court procedures and so on. For sure he paper work will cost more than 500 Rupees, Wasting public money... if the woman is deported then it could be understandable. she will start her profession again.sending our hard earn foreign revenue back to her country.
