UNP will not be divided if things are done in a democratic manner, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said yesterday.
Mr Premadasa who was speaking to journalists after meeting the Mahanayake Thera of Asgiri and Malwathu chapters in Kandy, said everything should be done within a democratic framework.
“UNP will able to capture power if it adopts a new face and work in accordance with new trends,” Mr Premadasa said. He stressed that it is the voters who make decisions and that no one can work against the people’s will.
Responding to a question raised by Mahanayake of Malwathu Chapter most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera on the UNP leadership, he said people will decide as to who should lead the UNP.
Mr Premadasa then informed the Mahanayake Thera that he had undertaken to hold religious programmes at the Opposition Leader’s office.
Also the Leader of Opposition informed the Mahanayake of Asgiri Chapter most Venerable Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera that he and the UNP will support all the good deeds of the present government and thus build up a progressive opposition.
He also stressed the need to relook at several international treaties which Sri Lanka is about to sign and stressed that agreements which are adverse towards Sri Lanka should not be signed.
