Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda stressed the need to initiate a dialogue with the Indian Ocean littoral states on the abuse of fisheries resources in the region by other countries, a statement from the Fisheries Ministry said.
It said, Minister Devananda had emphasised that a mechanism should be worked out in consultation with all littoral states of the Indian Ocean. He said he would talk to the Ministry officials in this regard. The Minister made these remarks when Maldivian ambassador Omar Abdul Razzak called on him recently. The statement said they discussed issues faced by the two countries in the fisheries industry.
