Micro Cars Ltd commenced its first set of exports of six locally assembled tractors to Malaysia recently.

Following the export of the first six tractors, under the brand Micro Sonalika, the company anticipates increasing monthly orders as part of its continuing expansion into international markets “We are very pleased to announce our entry into the Malaysian market, and this is a very important development, particularly given the sophistication of the Malaysian market. We aim to continue making headway in international markets and hope to export tractors to other markets like those in Bangladesh, Pakistan and even India in the future.

“Micro Cars is in a good position at present. If you look back at our history, we are proud to say that from our humble beginnings we have now turned into a global exporter of vehicles and this is indeed a milestone for us,” Dr Lawrence Perera, Chairman, Micro Cars Ltd said.

Micro has been assembling tractors for the last 2 years at its plant in Kelaniya.

The company is granted tax-free imports on all components required for vehicle assembly as part of government concessions granted to local industries with at least 60% local content.

The company also manufactures hatchback cars and vans, which are also exported to dedicated showrooms in Bangladesh. Micro Cars have also increased in popularity locally having become the top selling brand of cars during September, unseating once popular brands like Maruti and Perodua.
