The prices of bakery products and bread will not increase before the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year, Bakery Owners’ Association President N. K. Jayawardena said.

“If the flour prices increased then we might have had to increase the prices immediately, but since it is the price of gas that has arisen it doesn’t affect us as much as flour,” Mr. Jayawardena said.

According to him the association members will meet after the New Year to make a decision regarding the increase of gas prices resulting in an increase in the prices of their goods.

Meanwhile the milk powder company owners are awaiting a response from the government for their demand of an increase in milk powder prices. We have not received a positive response from the Government yet, Anchor and Maliban milk powder companies said. (Sumaiya Rizvi)
