A weapons manufacturing hideout in the Dediyagala area in Akuressa was raided by the Matara Division Anti-vice Squad where they found hundreds of half-built guns similar to T56 assault rifles.

The factory was operated on the guise of a wood workshop. Police arrested one person during the raid. Most of the guns they had manufactured were double barrelled guns.

It was also revealed that they had sold a gun between Rs.50,000 and Rs.100,000.

Police also noted that the suspect (40) who was taken into custody had the ability to manufacture a gun where any bullet could be used for it.

Police have already started to look for individuals who had bought guns from this suspect. (Krishan Jeewaka Jayaruk)

Making a weapon which could take a life away is not a thing to appriciate. And selling it is another crime.

He seems to be a genius. Give him a job in the Defense Ministry and help him with technology to further improve his ability. Why should we import when we can make ourselves?

    Kepler Wednesday, 23 May 2012 12:40 PM

These people should be groomed and soon we should start manufacturing weapons in major scale like the developed countries and sell them internationally which is very profitable. This will not only get revenue to the country but also will help us to reduce our own cost of importing the same from other countries. This person seems to be a unique personality since he is probably the only person to manufacture a weapon which could be used with any bullet....

There are abundance of hidden talents in Sri Lanka. We as a nation failed to identify them and use them productively.

    DireStraits Thursday, 24 May 2012 05:41 AM

He must be a talented individual like many who dont have the opportunity to excel. This is why we need true leaders who can create these opportunities. If he can craft a gun, Im sure he will be able to craft machinery and spare parts for which we are spending out hard earned foreign currencies. I see no point in getting him to make more guns as they are rarely used for any good. Ever wonder why the poorest of the poor in the world including the children in the east of SL have access to and know how to use highly sophisticated killing weapons instead of computers etc which can give them a livelihood and future? Hmmm... indeed !
