Defence Min. says ‘Lankan sniper’ was not in military

The Sri Lankan who was arrested in the Maldives, identified as a sniper, was not attached to the Sri Lankan military, the Defence Ministry said today.

Maldivian news agency Haveeru has reported that the man who had been arrested, had been a sniper who had previously served in the Sri Lankan military.

However, the Maldivian authorities had neither confirmed nor denied the arrest.
