The debate on the 18 Amendment to the Constitution is underway in Parliament. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna presented the Bill in Parliament for the debate.
The UNP members except those who are supporting the Bill were not present in Parliament this morning.
The Prime Minister said that 16 UNP MPs are slated to vote for the 18 Amendment. (Daily Mirror online)

If the frogs (pole vaulters) from the UNP want to "strengthen" the president's hand by voting for 18th amendment, then why did they not contest under the UPFA ticket without betraying UNP voters?

Presidency with no term restrictions is enjoyed by Politically backward, undemocratic countries such as Azerbaijan,Turkmenistan, Syria, Yemen, Burkina Faso and Uganda! We are going to join them too!! Yeaaaah! Go Sri Lanka! ;)

Even in the one-party State of China there is a two term limit (Article 79). Singapore is a virtul one-party state with many Opposition leaders in jail or disqualified. In the 94-member Parliament thee are only 3 opposition members! The figures speak for them selves in that country which is show-cased as a model of development. In Indonesia too there is a two term limit (Article 7).

Argument is no body can prevent this bill becoming the law. So let us all vote for it and be on Mahinda's camp. OK, let him be the king and develop Sri Lanka. If he fails, he will have to pay for it.
