The surge of COVID-19 cases will continue at least for another couple of weeks, an official said. Deputy Director-general of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told Daily Mirror any downward trend could be expected only afterwards.
Therefore, he said tight health precautions should be enforced during this period to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control. Commenting on the fatalities, he said most fatalities were caused by the COVID-19 induced pneumonia during the current wave whereas it was mainly due to other health complications worsened by the coronavirus during the first and second waves.
“It means quite a number of deaths are caused by COVID-19 itself,” he said. (KELUM BANDARA)

It is a case of slamming the door after the horse has bolted. Now there are glib statements being made as if the authorities were unaware this would happen. We were coming out of the 1st

Joshua is spot on! These kinds of predictions are laughable like the SL weather reports - "minimum 4 weeks". The numbers are on an exponential rise for many months. The only way to stem it is by 24 hr vaccination program and 100% district wide isolation. Use COVID19 funds to purchase from excess stocks in many countries.
