Additional buses would be assigned by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) from today to provide necessary transport facilities for the people to visit their hometowns from Colombo for the upcoming Presidential Election, SLTB DGM (Operations) P.H.R.T. Chandrasiri said.
He said the SLTB had identified the coming weekdays as a long weekend including Saturday (16) and Sunday (17) and people would leave Colombo from today.
“Therefore, steps had been taken to deploy additional buses from twelve provinces to Colombo as required,” he said.
"Election duties start from Friday (15). By that day we can limit the number of buses used for long-distance services. There will be no school bus services on that day. Those buses will be assigned to provide transport service at the provincial level," he said.
“From Monday (18), all buses would operate from all provinces to provide transport facilities for people to come back to Colombo,” he said.
"Most of the SLTB workers cast their votes using the postal voting facility. There would be no issues with assigning additional leave for them and assigning them for special election transport duties at this election," Chandrasiri said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
