Considering the current pandemic situation which the country faces at present, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) today warned that the situation could turn  serious by the middle of next month.

GMOA Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge said the emergence of increased number of COVID-19 positive cases are highly likely from many districts by mid February.

He said there is a sharp decline in COVID-19 positive cases in the Western Province (WP), but unfortunately the risk has moved to other districts.

"The number of  COVID-19 patients reported from other provinces on daily basis has increased by about 35%, compared to WP.

More than 700 cases are being reported everyday following  PCR tests. The most difficult thing is figuring out the associates of the positive cases," he said.

Therefore, it is imperative to bring the COVID-19 vaccine as early as possible, Dr. Aluthge stressed. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

It is important to start the vaccination program as soon as possible in SL. With the opening of Tourists to our country we may be letting in the COVID-19 mutations as well. We need to establish victory over the pandemic before concentrating on tourism or economic revival. We also need victory over Racism /Corruption /nepotism viruses that has been ENDEMIC in SL.
