Several areas almost reached community Transmission stage: PHIs

Replying to the statements constantly made by health authorities that there is no community spread in the country, the Public Health Inspectors’ Union said several areas in the country have almost reached the community transmission stage.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Secretary M. Balasooriya said random cases were reported from areas like Mattakkuliya, Modara, Bloemendhal, Grandpass and Borella where the positive cases were reported having no connection to the existing clusters.

“Community transmission takes place when cases are reported with no links to the prevailing clusters. Though authorities say such cases have not been reported, we as people on the ground have come across such cases where source remains unknown,” he underlined.

‘Such cases have also been reported from the Kurunegala District as well,” he added. He said in a situation where cases had been reported from all the districts, the people and authorities should be more cautious of the scenario.

When asked whether they have communicated in this regard to relevant authorities, Balasooriya said they had alerted the situation to relevant officials.

He also said the prevailing set up in the country was adequate to address the situation.

However, it should be done with a proper monitoring process.

“Several areas like Bloemendhal, declared as isolated areas are not secure as travel restriction was not properly observed and checked.

Therefore, it is of utmost significance to carefully monitor the situation and see whether everything is on the correct track,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

How can they tell no community transmission when some people are dying of covid and its detected only after their death? it takes about a 18 days average to die from covid. I assume pcr not done on these patients because there is no connection to peliyagoda or menuwangoda clusters. if we assume mortality rate is 2% and if two people die of covid today then you can conclude about 100 peole are infected 18 days ago.

Community transmission started more than five months ago! At that time Kandakadu rahab centre got the virus from the community and cause further transmissions to wider community.

This report is absolutely corrected. Heath Department says there will be more clusters in the country if we don’t fulfil the health guidelines. There are definitely more clusters already in. It looks like the situation is beyond control. Health authorities should have some future plans sooner rather than later

What is funny in Banana Republic is that what the common man knows, the police and all the military intelligence and the health ministry does not know.

A few more days people must strictly adhere to the restrictions imposed by the health authorities and cooperate with the govt. to reduce and curb the spread as much as possible . Govt. Must close down non essential shops in Pettah as people can live without fancy goods,footwear,electrical goods etc.
