Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) extended a formal request to the parties working under the banner of the Joint Opposition to participate in its maiden convention to be conducted on August 11, a party leader said yesterday.

The SLPP will announce its presidential candidate at this convention.

The party leaders met with Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday evening, where they decided to support the no-confidence motion moved by the JVP against the government.

A party leader who attended the meeting said that ahead of the convention, the SLPP would as much as possible, try to reach some political understanding with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Presently, the two sides are conducting bilateral talks. (Kelum Bandara)

Why our people are so ignorant? Can they realy rally under a man whose interest is himself and the family and his cronies. Look how he sacked Peter hill C O of Emirates since he refused to offload passengers of business class of Airlanka to facilitate this man and his crowed to travel from London to Srilanka. Cant our people understand that this was the very reason why our Airline became bankrupt, Are they leaders we must select to govern this country? Cant some one file a court case of this issue?

The SLPP wants to unite all criminals (killers, looters, cheats and other crooks) under a banner to appoint the boss of all bosses, the Godfather, as a candidate.
