The Road Development Authority (RDA) will take over the road development projects on which the work have been delayed by the contractors, Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando said yesterday.
“Contractors who have delayed work and were requesting for some more time to begin the work, will not be excused and the RDA will take over those projects,” Minister Fernando told a meeting at his ministry recently.
“They will not be given contracts in the future,” the Minister added.
“President has decided to expedite the road development projects. Therefore, the contractors should come up with them now. Delaying work is not good as far as the people and the country are concerned. You should see whether you are capable of handling the project before you submit tenders. Public funds are wasted when work is delayed,” he told the contractors.
“There are a lot of road construction work coming up in the future. Therefore participate in the country’s development by doing your work efficiently and effectively,” he also said. (Yohan Perera)
