The government has decided to temporarily halt the provision of the tabs for school students until a proper probe into the alleged misappropriations were carried out, Co-Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardana said today.
He mentioned at a news briefing that Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma had sought Cabinet approval for this suspension.
“It is appropriate to carry out a proper probe into the misappropriation of funds that had reportedly taken place in distributing tabs for students, “he said.
The provision of tabs was launched by the previous government's Ministry of Education in October 2017.
Former Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had decided to distribute tabs among advanced level students and teachers. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Its a good move. Its a utter waste. Improve the IT infrastructure or accessibility for the rural students would help in the long run.
