Stating that there is no reason to fear a shortage of vaccines, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva today said that each and every eligible individual would receive the Covid-19 vaccine at the right time.

The Head of the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said that the government was in the process of procuring the necessary stocks of vaccines from foreign countries.

A committee headed by Senior Advisor to the President Lalith Weeratunga has initiated dialogue with several countries in order to procure the stocks of the AstraZeneca vaccine. This is in order to fulfill the requirement for the second dose for a large number of recipients who received the AstraZeneca vaccine since its rollout in March. General Shavendra Silva expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to secure the required vaccines from a different country soon.

Meanwhile efforts are underway for the government to purchase 13 million doses of the Russian made Sputnik V vaccine, according to the NOCPCO Chief. Sri Lanka will soon receive 900,000 doses of this amount over the next few days, he added.

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva also said 900,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine is due to be received by the end of June or early July. He said that only one dose of the Pfizer vaccine is required, adding that the required numbers would be taken into consideration when procuring vaccines.

"each and every eligible individual would receive the Covid-19 vaccine at the right time," he says. Do you know the right time, General? What is "RIGHT TIME" for you could be "POST-MORTEM" for many. Stop talking nonsense. You people have screwed the country and its people already.

LTTE was wiped-out by Three forces. They got leader-ship and did good job. Happy. Like wise Covid-19 can be wiped-out by Health Services. They should take leader-ship and should be given leader-ship. But today, Dog's job done by Donkey. Because of this Covid-19 virus is spreading fast.

A part of the population has already got the first dose and is now fighting to get the second jab. The majority of the eligible , including the Senior Citizens, have not got even the first dose ? The mere sight of the long queues is sickening !

Pfizer has announced that they will provide a single dose vaccine. Some guys are not aware of it. Current Pfizer vaccine requires 2 doses , to be given , 12 weeks apart.

    Kishore Friday, 14 May 2021 10:02 PM

No reason to fear? Because you had it already and don't care of the people? They couldn't bring the vaccine to the country because they have earned enemys around the world specially India, UK etc.

    V Ravindra Friday, 14 May 2021 10:05 PM

Does he even know what he's talking about? Pfizer vaccine is administered in two doses and not one. Only the Johnson
