The 31-year-old man arrested over obstructing the police officer who was on duty at Borella junction during the motorcade provided to the Chinese Defence Minister on April 27 was released on Rs. 50,000 bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate today.
The Borella Police arrested the man at Battaramulla yesterday for having spearheaded the protest by tooting the horns of vehicles to express their anger when the police had sealed off roads to make way for the VIP motorcade of the visiting Chinese Defence Minister to pass by.
The incident was reported on April 27 when the motorcade of the Chinese defence minister was passing the Borella Junction.
Police said the man pleaded was guilty over the charges when he was produced in court.
He told court that he had returned from Australia after 10 years and that he had no idea why the road was closed.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said a 31-year old man from Battaramulla was arrested on charges of obstructing the police and spearheading unlawful assembly. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

This is not an offence as it is a freedom of expression. BUT when the China start control us, we may loose all our freedom of expression by Chinese law.

He had the right to express his anger at a time like this where Corona is everywhere and they have to get home on time to their loved ones. One should not block the road. As Sri lankians we pay our tax too. That’s called Democratic.

The guy must understand to respect the visiting Defense Minister, at least. His apology is appreciable. But the news reporter was RUDE in his question.
