Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara, known to be a Sajith Premadasa loyalist, was critical of a move by the United National Party (UNP) to support a resolution to dissolve parliament saying the government should step down as soon as possible to pave the way for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to form a new administration.
He said a snap general election would be advantageous only to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The minister said only the deal makers in his party were interested in getting parliament dissolved at this time.
“It is not in the interests of our party to dissolve parliament at this time. Let the new President dissolve it in line with the Constitution,” he said.

Kick out the deal making losers or form a new party with Sajith as leader. This ridiculous charade has gone on for too long. It's obvious that the top dealmaker only wants to lose again.

Don’t try to be honourable, what you suggest could lead to Sajit taking over the party and you getting the rewards on the other hand if party is dissolved now Ranil could become the leader of opposition and you be thrown into the cold. All of you Politicians are corrupt up to your neck, trying promote your own interests masquerading as principles.

Let the rumourmongers and pseudopatriots show that they can deliver on their fake promises before we go for an election.

You are wrong minister. The longer you trying to be in power more you losing the votes from north and east! You will see what would happen!

Allow SLPP to form a Govt and for the next 3 months let them show how they are going to meet what Gota promised or put a noose around their own necks.
Deep thoughts Wednesday, 20 November 2019 06:26 AM
This minister is right. Looking at the aftermath of election, it is the wave of frenzy that is sweeping the country, including kiri bath and assault on a Buddhist monk. The entire UNP may get swept away.

What they said is absolutely correct. 2015 Mythri/Ranil just grab the gov after election. But they didn't do it this time even though they have bigger mandate.

Yes, do not allow Ranil to dictate what he wants throw him and his gang out of politics.

it would be worse if this unpopular government continue further

Yes, any fifth grader should understand this. As for the deal makes or horse traders, they were seen in Anuradhapura a few days ago.

Madduma Bandara is talking of what is good for the party but people are interested in what is good for the country.
Sando Wednesday, 20 November 2019 09:20 AM
Dissolution is the democratic way.....given the Public Outcry.....Never mind.....People will give their Vote again in March 2020.
Reason Wednesday, 20 November 2019 09:40 AM
@ Anmanpan: You are absolutely correct. The "deal makers" were the real cause for Hon Sajith's loss. With this attitude, the "deal makers" cannot develop the country.

This is why they got 19A changed for pensions to be power hungry. Chase them away

Advantageous or disadvantageous it is the right thing to do, without considering personal gain or loss. The same argument was given in October 2018, or have you forgotten? Now practice what you preach or the electorate will punish you
