The proposed Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement will be signed only after studying and subjecting it into Sri Lankan law, a government MP told Parliament yesterday.
Government MP and former Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe told the House that the government will follow a transparent approach with regard to the proposed MCC agreement.
Accordingly, he said the most important objections that have been made against the agreement would be looked into before signing it.
“One of the most important objections raised against the MCC agreement is that it is only subjected to international law. The government, therefore, is working towards making it subjected to local law,” he said.
"The previous government had an extensive discussion on the agreement initially bringing all state institutions to the table. However they were not called for any discussion thereafter," the MP said.
"The Attorney General had emphasised that the MCC agreement is only subjected to international law and it should be brought under the Sri Lankan law," he also said. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Was the deals signed with China compiled with the Sri Lankan laws ? No 1 gallface (army headquarters) was sold overnight outright to Chinese company by Rajapaksa’s. Did the Humbanthota harbor deal , port city compiled with the SL laws on Rajapaksa family law.

Heh! Heh! Heh! What did some of suspect all along? Somehow some way Gota will sign not only MCC, but also SOFA and ACSA. THIS is the bottom line and so many who thought this GOSL was better than Yahapalanites now will be sadly mistaken. A very sad situation for Sri Lanka. This latest delegation from China also suspected this for some time and NOW they will put the 'screws' on Sri Lanka in a big way and GR will have to think seriously as to which side he is on ! He will never go against US as his wife and son are still US citizens. So Sri Lankans had better quickly think of what they have to do next! MM
