Legal action would be taken against Heads of Department (HoD) of State and private sector institutions if any gatherings were organised within their office premises and found guilty of violating COVID safety regulations, the Public Health Inspectors' (PHI) Union President Upul Rohana said.
He said cases will be filed in courts against those department heads in accordance with the quarantine Act.
"Many complaints have been received about organising such gatherings. With the prevailing law in the country, any state or private institution cannot organise any such gathering," he said.
With reports reaching that a large number of COVID positive cases from state and private institutions and construction sites, the country is heading to a precariously critical situation. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
