Governorof Sabaragamauwa Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa was ordered by Ratnapura High Court Judge Lanka Jayaratne to reinstate Chairman of the Balangoda Urban Council who had been suspended from his post and restrained the relevant Gazette notification.
The High Court made that order after considering a petition filed by Chairman of the UC Chamika Jayamini Wimalasena (UNP).
Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Vice Chairman of the UC- M.T.M.Rumy, Retired High Court Judge Herath Mudiyanselage Rohana Anura Kumara and the Commissioner of Local Government, Sabaragamuwa Province were cited as respondents to the petition.
The petitioner stated that his political life would be jeopardized and his future plans to uplift the affairs of the council would be disrupted if the Governor’s decision was to stand. He sought a Court order retraining the Governor’s action. The case was postponed for March 17.
Attorney at Law Damitha Athukorala appeared for the petitioner.(Ajithlal Shanthaudaya and Prince Ratnayaka)
