Sri Lanka Navy apprehended two persons with 14.35 kg of gold worth over Rs.100 million being smuggled in the sea area of Madagal, Jaffna yesterday, the navy said.
A naval craft patrolling in the sea area of Madagal had pursued and intercepted a suspicious dinghy, as the suspicious dinghy escape the scene when the Navy was about to search it on suspicion. Upon interception the Navy apprehended two suspects aboard. During further search the Navy managed to find this consignment of gold.
The apprehended suspects have been identified as residents of the same area, aged 27. The accused along with the stock of gold and the dinghy were handed over to the Customs of Kankesanthurai for further investigation, the navy said.

Wow.. some Indian merchants have lost big! Hopefully that is the actual amount and there was no funny business before the media release. Gold should be auctioned off and some funds should go to the navy.
