Railway Department sources indicated that the General Manager of Railways Dilantha Fernando has resigned from his post yesterday. It was further revealed that his letter of resignation had been handed over to the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation L. P. Jayampathy yesterday.

It is revealed that the reason for his resignation is the influence exerted by the Transport Ministry officials to take back a Trade Union Secretary who had been interdicted for being under the influence of liquor during duty time. (Mahinda Nissanka)

The minister is Arjuna, who are these officials. The railway department is a mess. It needs to be privatized. No effect on the poor and below par service provided by the railway department.

It is a bad precedent for similar future events if this news is correct. How can a General Manager who took disciplinary action on a serious matter like this continue in his position and discharge his duties respectfully if the ministry forces him to reinstate such an officer who took cover under the trade union to misuse the position. In Sri Lankan government service many trade union officers do not work or allow other to work and take upper hand.

We are happy to note that the Public Service is still having honorable officials who do not bow down to corrupt Ministers like Arjuna (big talker )

Where is the problem with drunken engine drivers if we have even drunkards as flight captains?
