An accomplice of imprisoned underworld gangster Ihalagamage Darshana alias 'ID' has been arrested with 3 grams of heroin by the STF in Mount Lavinia yesterday.
The 35-year-old suspect, Kodippili Patabendige Nidesh Priyanga Silva, is a resident of Mount Lavinia and was arrested following a tip-off.
Gangster 'ID' is currently in prison over possessing a hand grenade and heroin.
Investigations revealed that the arrested suspect was handling financial affairs of ID and had been operating as his main drug distributor as well.
Meanwhile, the Thalangama Police Anti-Corruption Division arrested four accomplices of organized criminal 'Battaramulle Bunty' for possession of drugs.
Battaramulle Bunty was arrested by the Thalangama Police a few weeks ago in the Akuregoda area in Battaramulla with heroin.
Police said a 40-year-old woman, a 35-year-old retired Air Force soldier and two youths aged 20 and 21 were among those arrested with 20 grams of ice, 5 grams of heroin, 40 grams of Kerala cannabis.
The police also recovered Rs. 15,000 in cash and several mobile phones from the suspects’ possession.
The suspects were to be produced in the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court.
