A 43-year-old woman was arrested for making defamatory remarks against Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith in a video uploaded to social media, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

The suspect was arrested in Battaramulla. He said the video also contained content that arouse hatred between Buddhist and Catholic communities.

“She is to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate tomorrow,” DIG Rohana said.

The Criminal Investigation Department is carrying out further inquiry into the incident. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

I am not a Christian, but respect good teaching of all, most politicians of past government, did everything to cover up real masterminds of Easter mayhem, but his eminence cardinal Ranjith, demanded justice for innocent victims, many criticized him, threaten him,but he never changed his stance, now they using this shameless woman ,to sling mid at him, their intention is demoralize him

    GHarry Sunday, 18 October 2020 11:55 PM

She must be a puppet of Sumanthiran, Pakkalisothi saravanan, Sampanthan, Eran Wickremaratna, Ravi Karunanayagam etc.

    Jhonathan Sunday, 18 October 2020 11:58 PM

No freedom of speech in lanka?

    raj Monday, 19 October 2020 12:05 AM

this arrest wrong. people have right to criticize anyone including any priest regardless of their religion. They can be Hindu of Buddhist or Muslims or Christians or Catholics. In France, one Muslim terrorist killed a teacher because the teacher made some comments about Muslim religion. If people really believe in God, why do they need to resort violence?

    Saman Monday, 19 October 2020 12:10 AM

    Another Colombo Liberal

    ChanakaJ Monday, 19 October 2020 12:29 AM

    Leelaratne Monday, 19 October 2020 12:56 PM

She has no knowledge of any religion. She is a paid puppet of an NGO trying to destroy Buddhism. Please do not let her give lectures to Daham Pasal students.

what were in the remarks 'defmatory' about the card kuddu nal?

Kapila Senaratne Wednesday, 21 October 2020 10:30 PM

No lawyer practices our constitutional rights any more. Article 6 “ Freedom of speech and publish “

Fred de Silva Thursday, 22 October 2020 06:58 AM

Freedom of speech has limits, does not mean you can say what you want. There has to be accountability for those thousands whose lives have been destroyed forever. Not to mention the image of the country, dragged in the mud. Need justice Focus on that, not the Cardinal
