Daughter of SL migrants at Miss Italia contest

Sevmi Tharuka Fernando - daughter of a Sri Lankan couple who had migrated to Italy about 30 years ago - qualified to participate in the finals of “Miss Italia” held yesterday night. Born in the town of Padua, 20-year-old Tharuka is a diploma holder of beauty culture and works as a model. She qualified for the finals of the Miss Italia contest after being crowned as the beauty queen at the Veneto Provincial contest. She became one of the 187 contestants selected from regional contests and earned a place among the 80 contenders for the final held on Friday night. Tharuka is known to have bravely withstood racist remarks by some Italians with regard to her complexion.

    If people (especially) young women have nutritious food in Sri Lanka most will look better. Unfortunately mal and under nutrition is very high and no one cares. This is while people spend billions to feed already fat parliamentarians
