A very good idea and hope our Muslim brothers arne sisters understand this ! This should be banned all over the world but in SL, this should ban forever to keep the ethnic harmony and peace. Covering head is ok but covering face and wearing that stupid black gown make entire country unsafe.

What is burka, this is only to protect women from sand Strom etc in mideast and dry area like Afghanistan. Our people went to mideast as maids introduce this culture in Sri Lanka. Good it was banned. It was not part of our culture.

    Suresh Sunday, 28 April 2019 11:16 PM

Finally! These should have been implemented yrs ago

Great. This ban should have been imposed all over the world. Particularly, given this tension throughout the country, I believe this is a great move by the President and should have carried out to the rest of the world. Whether the person is a Muslim or not, if you got something to hide and do not want be seen with your no. 1 identity, which is the face, that person should be banned in ALL public appearances. Sri Lankan Muslims are good people. We should respect them in this bad time. We can't measure their sadness now . But some people spoil their good names. It is common in all religion . 5his is shortcut to become famous without hard work.

Make it a permanent decision not just under emergency. The threat of terrorism is ever present. Any fool should understand the danger in having disguised people roaming freely. The lives of others cannot be endangered because of the decision of some to keep their faces covered.

So no more tourist from middle east

    Only a moron won't understand this Sunday, 28 April 2019 11:50 PM

Letting some people keep their faces covered is no different from letting everyone have guns. A majority may not cause trouble, but the minority that does presents too large a risk for others.

    Ridiculous

    Jade Monday, 29 April 2019 12:21 AM

MY3 finally did something good for the country and particularly to the SL Muslim women! Cheers

Then what do you want to say for the nuns who wears the same!! .Respect every religion and culture. We law abiding citizens who want peace. Please refrain from hate speech as you got a free stage to outpour your anger. We will support the decisions of government.Respect every religion regardless of the situation prevailing. Innocent people were killed, that doesn't mean let's start abusing another set of innocent Muslims to tally the damage.

Read Dr.Richard Hammond's book on Islam to understand what it is. As long Muslims practice their religion there is no arm. The other components Legal, Political, Social, Economy and Military are not suitable in countries like Sri Lanka.

Frustrated Tour Operator Monday, 29 April 2019 08:38 AM

As an inbound tour operator I see a massive problem ahead. Minister of tourism should intervene. Most of the tourists from the West are hippies or elderly people who survive on a few dollars per day. Middle eastern tourists are the highest spenders who spend upto a 1000 dollars per day.

At last, they have done the right thing. I've even seen a women completely covered then Emigration stamps the passport

    Thomas Monday, 29 April 2019 08:57 AM

This ban should be permanent for ever. We never had the women covering the face prior to eighties

    CITIZEN Monday, 29 April 2019 09:11 AM

Sensible decision, which the true Muslim Organisations have cooperated.

Nihal Amarasekera Monday, 29 April 2019 10:24 AM

    Face saving measure.

    Sil Monday, 29 April 2019 07:56 PM

Heard this attire worn in desert as a body cover to sands storms ,on this beautiful country we don't have such, and beginning that was worn by house maids who came back from ME, hope our Muslim sisters will follow the rule without a grudge

    RP Monday, 29 April 2019 08:15 PM

Sorry, you’re missing the point here. Nun’s dress creates respect unlike the degrading, blood pressure raising and dehumanizing burkha and niqab. Please verify these with your Muslim females. Also, nuns only cover their hair similar to Muslim women in SL did up until early 1990’s. Cheers.
