A disabled man who was driving a vehicle without a driving licence was about to run over a policeman on the Colombo-Negombo Road yesterday.
The cop had a close call when he cautioned the disabled driver not to drive further.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said a Police team from Western Province North Traffic Division conducted a special raid along the Colombo-Negombo Road.
At that time a policeman was checking a vehicle and found the driver was a disabled man with a doformity on his leg. It was found later that the driver did not have a driving licence to drive a vehicle.
DIG Rohana said the policeman had a narrow escape when the driver tried to run over him as he tried to book the man for driving without licence. The driver was later arrested on charges of attempted murder and other connected traffic offence.
He was handed over to the Peliyagoda Police and will be produced in the Hultfsdorfp Magistrate Court.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Most cops are standing on the centre of the road dangerously so drivers find if difficult not to hit them. They need to think about alternative solutions to this issue.
