Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has met senior cricketers including Roshan Mahanama, Mahela Jayawardane and Kumar Sangakkara at Temple Trees today to discuss the construction of new cricket stadium in Homagama.

The cricketers had informed the Prime Minister that development of schools and rural cricket infrastructure are much important than the construction of massive stadiums.

Former SLC Chairman Thilanga Sumathipala said those participated in the discussion including the senior cricketers were of the opinion that a huge ammount of US$ 40 million should not be spent on this project at this time.

Kumar is the MCC President so he has more importance in the outside world than the local Sri Lankan Prime Minister. Yet Kumar is treated like an ordinary invitee in front of the “important” Prime Minister of tiny Sri Lanka. Either Kumar should have been given a seat next to the Prime Minister or he should have taken part via video.
