While assuring that the construction of the Central Expressway Project (CEP) would be completed soon, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said there would have been no delay if their government had not been toppled in 2015.
He said this while on an inspection visit of the second stage of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala, a stretch of 41 kilometres.
The Prime Minister said the Central Expressway comprised four lanes and six interchange points and would be completed within 30 months.
The construction of the Expressway began in January 2017 and was to be completed and handed over to the public by July 2019.
Roads and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando, former MP Shantha Bandara and project engineers of the North Central Expressway Project and officials of the contract institutions accompanied the Premier on his inspection visit. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama and Pushpakumara Mallawarachchi)

The world in financial crisis and we build highways and cricket stadium. Now wonder no donors are helping Sri Lanka. No more calls from world leaders and the result will be request for loans or write-offs. The joker country of the world or the miracle of the world. Use tools or was it stools.
