Asgiriya Chapter Anunayaka the Ven. Wendaruwe Upali Thera expressed concerns about the statement made from the public platform criticizing Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.
He said it was a matter of serious concern that a public representatives should have criticized religious dignitaries in this manner when an atmosphere had been created for all communities and religious groups to live in peace and harmony promoting brotherhood.
“Activities of politicians and leading personalities are based on the standard of their understanding of different religions and cultures. However, lack of thorough knowledge of religions would affect politics. The people expect the politicians to foster their religions. Criticizing religious dignitaries will lead to one’s downfall.” the Thera said.
He said the politicians must understand that the all communities and religious groups in the country were now living in peace and harmony and that it should not be disturbed. (Nadeeka Daya Bandara and L.B. Senaratne)

There is no difference between the Mahanayakes/Anunayakes of various Buddhist chapters and the Cardinal. They all "kadeyanawa" for Mahinda Rajapakse for the personal benefits they get from Mahinda.

You are also travelling on the same boat. You all must stop making politicised statements. Please go to north and east to see whether Tamil speaking communities are living in peace. Their life is disturbed by some corrupted politicians supported by you.

These men of cloth who have taken to lead a path in the propagation of their religion should stick to just that. They need to cater to the moral and spiritual needs of their sect followers. The cardinal needs to learn from his predecessor, the late Archbishop of Colombo - Rev Nicholas Marcus Fernando - a humble servant of God. A non political figure who tended to his "flock"without favor, boot licking or ass kissing politicians. This cardinal has the Pope to imitate and is best advised to follow the example of the Pope. Never has any pope interfered into the political affairs of a country nor its political destiny. Men of cloth keep off politics for good.
