Daughter of slain Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge along with several families of victims of grave crimes have written to the Attorney General expressing alarm and concern over the treatment of the former Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) director Shani Abeysekara who is currently in remand custody.

Observing that Abeysekara has been imprisoned based on contradictory statements and allegations, the group including Ahimsa Wickrematunge, urged the Attorney General Dappula de Livera to reconsider the objection to granting bail to Mr. Abeysekara. They added that the same standard of compassion, care and consideration shown to former terrorists and narcotics peddlers, should be shown to the former CID director.

It was reported that Shani Abeysekara recently contracted COVID-19 while in remand custody, and is now in military custody at Gallewa, Polonnaruwa. The group expressed grave concern over this decision.

Came the day when victims pray for the life of an investigator: came the day when a policeman is hunted for investigating without fear or favor.

Yes we can have convicted murderers in Parliament and killers of thousands of tamils/sinhalese during the war out on bail, but a CID officer cannot be released on bail. A true face of this Government.

It is the culture of Sri Lankan governments since the independence that not to respect Ahimsa. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been any war. Most Sri Lankan government have deaf year for Ahimsa. Tamils should never expect that Sinhalese regime will ever respect their democratic rights by examining the past. Behavior of the past is behavior of present and future.

Mr.Sampanthan and Mr.Sumanthiran rescued war criminals from facing International War Crime Tribunals by accepting local inquiry with local constitution while the crimes falls under international and not local laws. Tamils should remember that as long as there is an unpunished war criminal out in Sri Lanka, Tamils life in danger.

Tamils should bring up Lasantham's murder case to international level on humanitarian base. He is a great person regardless of his ethnicity. He stand up for the truth and sacrificed his life for the journalism and standing up against wrong doers

It is extremely disappointing and disheartening to watch the Sri Lanka government turning into such a cruel, ruthless and unlawful tyranny. The goons are out when the dutiful public servants are imprisoned and infected with COVID and then not given healthcare when they needed it the most. I feel sad for the 69lacks of voters who were fooled by the white lies the government and the president to come in to power. There were appalling and ruthless governments in Sri Lanka before, but this one by far is the worst of the worst and the one that no Sri Lankan ever wanted. The only thing remaining is for the international or UN to intervene to tame this barbaric rulers. Sri Lanka
