An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been transferred for allowing to organise Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa's birthday celebration at the Kurunegala Police premises, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickremeratne ordered to initiate an inquiry on the birthday party held along with a Pirith chanting ceremony violating COVID-19 prevention regulations.
The probe is headed by Senior DIG Nandana Munasinghe.
A seven-day pirith chanting ceremony has also been organized by the Kurunegala Police in view of the prevailing pandemic in the country.
It was reported that the Mayor attended the religious observance yesterday (30), where his birthday was also celebrated.
The ASP attached to the Police Station is reported to have arranged the cutting of cake to celebrate the Mayor’s birthday.
Meanwhile, a team of Special Investigation Unit has also been deployed to conduct an investigation into the incident.
The party was organized at a time when all public gatherings and parties have been suspended due to the prevailing COVID outbreak in the county. (Pushpakumara Jayaratne)

ASP transfered. Is that the punishment for violation of quarantine laws? What about the mayor? He needs to be arrested. The age old saying " You need two to Tango". A lawless country. Now we see the how good the Yahapalanaya of Gamarala was.

This country is a utter joke. I am sure nothing will happen to this person. Btw, what has happened to the demolition of that building? Isnt he the same person. There is no argument that this country will never be a developed country.

Why transfer the ASP? Take meaningful action. Charge the ASP for aiding and abetting the Mayor to breach the Covid Regulations or ASP and mayor for breaching the Covid Regulations

Is the mayor is someone's buddy? Recently there was a public anger against this mayor for demolishing historical site and later everything was settled "amicably" for everyone's satisfaction.

Will the Hon. Minister of Sport apologize on behalf of the Mayor? Or is it the ASP at fault for celebrating Mayor's Birthday?

What about that moron of a mayor, Johnston's left hand. He should be kicked out first.
