A special flight carrying 185 tourists on board from Ukraine arrived at the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) today, nine months since the airports had been closed for tourists due to COVID-19 pandemic, Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited (AASL) Director Shehan Sumanasekara said.
He said flight (PQ-555, Sky Up Air Line service) arrived at the MRIA at 2.07 pm today.
The aircraft was carrying 11 crew members, including two pilots.
"This pilot project is a forerunner to attract more tourists to the country. After the success of this, all airports will be opened in the future to attract more tourists," Sumanasekara said.
Moreover, upon the response of the pilot project, it has been scheduled to receive 13 more airlines to MRIA with more tourists, he added. (T.K.G Kapila)
