The United National Party (UNP) has urged the government to release the proposals on constitutional reforms and the 17th Amendment if the party is to re-consider moves to withdraw from talks with the government.

UNP Member of Parliament Joseph Michael Perera, speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that so far while the government has spoken on constitutional reforms, the proposals have not yet been released.

The UNP had yesterday decided to suspend talks with the government on constitutional reforms claiming that the government was using the talks to draw opposition members to the government side.

A top UNP source said that the talks between UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Mahinda Rajapaksa held recently on constitutional reforms, though successful, will not continue further.

The UNP alleges that the government had roped in opposition members Prabha Ganeshan and P. Digambaram by using the talks as a tool and is now attempting to seek the support of more opposition members in order to secure the two thirds majority in Parliament. (Daily Mirror online)

Weaken of UNP is reason for question of democracy in Sri Lanka and all the efforts to strengthen the party is getting worse which is not good for democracy and good governance.

A party with no vision. They should have asked the government to publicize the ammedments to the constitution before they went and met MR. Ranil has to go. Please go.
